Windows XP SP3 Finally Being Released
After endless years of waiting and wondering, Microsoft is finally going to release Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. The service pack is supposed to be available on April 29, 2008. For more info, read this article from Download Squad.
As I should have assumed, Microsoft has let its users down again. Windows XP SP3 has still not been released. Considering the fact that the last service pack was released nearly four years ago, the situation is ridiculous.
Also, I’d like to complain that every time I visit the Windows Update site, I am forced to download and install the Genuine Advantage Validation tool. This seems to happen every time! I’d also add that some new updates do not appear on the Windows Update list of downloads. One such example is the newly updated DirectX (which was released a month ago). What is the matter with the people at Microsoft? Obviously, neglecting their customers is a staple of their business practices. One shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to get all valid product updates.
XP SP3 was released via automatic updates yesterday, May 6, 2008. I upgraded my Dell laptop computer, which took at least an hour to perform the upgrade, but afterward, everything seems to be working fine. I have noticed no noticable differences from my SP2 environment, but it is good that Microsoft finally released a service pack that includes all of the updates since SP2. But shouldn’t we be on SP6 by now? A service pack should be released annually, no?
